Pool Excavation Sydney

A pool dig starts with the pool builder's drawing, not the backyard. The drawing gives the outline, the depths at each end, where the steps and benches go and how much over-dig the shell or the concrete needs. That's set out on the lawn with pegs, paint and string, and checked against the fences and the house so the pool ends up where the plan says and not a hand-width off the boundary.

Access comes next. Most Sydney pools go in through a side gate, so the machine is sized to fit and the route is protected: boards or mats over the driveway, garden beds covered, the gate taken off if it needs to be. The spoil comes out the same way, usually in a small dumper or by loading straight into a truck at the front, and it goes as the dig progresses so the yard doesn't fill up.

The dig itself works in layers. Topsoil off first, then down to the floor level in passes, keeping the walls straight and the corners tight. Fibreglass shells are unforgiving: the hole has to match the mould closely enough that the crane can lower it in and the backfill can lock it, so the floor and steps are checked with a laser against the shell drawing before anyone calls the crane. Concrete pools are over-dug to give room for the steel and the shotcrete, and the walls are kept clean so the steel fixer has something to work against.

Rock changes the day. Where the dig goes through sandstone, the edges are sawn and the bulk is broken out, which is slower and louder and is priced in when the site look finds it.

The finished hole is trimmed to level, the loose material is cleaned off the floor and the walls, and the site is left ready for the shell or the steel. Once the shell's in and the pool builder gives the word, the backfill goes in around it and the yard is brought back to level.
